In the 1780s, Mozart forged a new path as an independent composer and pianist. The piano concertos were a vehicle for his prowess in both roles—opening up the musical possibilities of the piano concerto and bringing Mozart to the height of his fame as a performer. Haydn received the news that Mozart had died while writing his 98th Symphony, and it became a coded tribute to the great composer, quoting his Coronation Mass, the Jupiter Symphony and even God Save the King.

With a feisty Cimarosa overture and Beethoven’s intimate second Romance performed with outstanding violinist Natalia Harvey as soloist, this is quite simply a Classical feast.
